ELF Renault Clio Cup enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2007 with capacity grids of up to 38 at nine of the 10 race meetings. Every round, featuring the highly-acclaimed New Clio Cup racer in its debut season, produced the kind of exciting racing for which Clio Cup has become renowned as Martin Byford clinched the title at the final race meeting of the season.

In 2008 the championship will have a limit of 36 registrations as it reverts to the traditional timed qualifying format. Once again, the ELF Renault Clio Cup supports the UK’s best-attended race series, the British Touring Car Championship, at nine race meetings. The 10th event of the year is held alongside the UK leg of World Series by Renault, which in 2007 attracted a record crowd of 135,000 during the course of the weekend.

A major boost to the new-look ELF Renault Clio Cup is the introduction of the New Clio Cup race car, a 2.0-litre 205hp pure racer based on the road-going Clio Renaultsport 197. More than 60 cars have been sold in the UK in the first year, making it Renault Sport’s most successful Clio Cup racer.

With former Renault one-make champions including World Touring Car champion Andy Priaulx and BTCC favourites Jason Plato and Tom Onslow-Cole, Renault’s 33-year involvement in British motorsport is set to continue in strong fashion.
