Formula Renault BARC becomes a single-class series in 2009 having established itself as the ideal entry-level championship in which to begin a single-seater career and a strong club racing series. Using identical Formula Renault 2.0 chassis to the BTCC-supporting Formula Renault UK Championship, the low-cost series visits many of the top UK circuits making it the ideal junior formula.

Formula Renault BARC has attracted a capacity entry for the past two seasons. In that time, 10 drivers with experience in the club-level series have gone on to race in Formula Renault UK, while 2007 champion Hywel Lloyd made the step directly into Formula Three.

The championship receives full support from Renault Sport UK with regard to sporting and technical matters. Often the headline event at race meetings, Formula Renault BARC receives media coverage valued at £100,000 per year. Changes for 2009 include a revision to the points system, increase in the prize fund per race and the introduction of a Privateer Cup.
