Formula Renault UK is established as the country’s leading single-seater championship, launching the car racing careers of Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Räikkönen and Heikki Kovalainen. More recent champions include Mike Conway and Oliver Jarvis, who have won international titles in Formula Three, while Jamie Green and Paul Di Resta developed their skills in the series before finding success in touring cars.

Formula Renault UK enjoys a high level of exposure as a national championship due to its place on the support package of the British Touring Car Championship, leading to television coverage on the ITV network. Two races held at World Series by Renault, which attracted a crowd of 110,000 in 2008, make it the best attended one-make single-seater championship in the UK.

The 2009 season marks the 20th anniversary of the Formula Renault UK Championship. The bodywork design gives an F1-style appearance for the 2.0-litre cars, in line with the design of cars in Renault’s other one-make formulae. Sporting and technical equity underpin competitive racing that is the fastest on the BTCC package at speeds of up to 150mph.
