Kimi Raikkonen
| Kimi Raikkonen is the first Formula Renault UK with Michelin Championship graduate to win the FIA Formula One World Drivers’ Championship. The Finn dominated the 2000 Formula Renault UK Championship and his performances for Manor Motorsport made it clear the ‘Iceman’ was a special driver.
Just 19 when he first raced a Formula Renault UK car, Raikkonen competed in four races in the 1999 Championship, claiming a podium on his first outing at Donington Park. Returning for a full tilt at the title after joining Manor Motorsport in 2000, he finished third in round one before scoring his maiden win from pole position in round two at Donington Park. He added six further wins, five of them from pole position, before missing the last two rounds with the title already won. With just 23 car races under his belt, the then 21-year-old was granted a Super Licence enabling him to race in Formula One after impressing during testing with the Sauber F1 team. After coming close to the Formula One Drivers’ crown in 2003 and 2005 with McLaren, the Finn won six races after switching to Ferrari in 2007 to clinch his first F1 title. | ![]() ![]() ![]() |
