The more I see of the FRS the more I think they got its 'look' spot onBig Smile Not over the top like the Civic and not bland like the Golf R.

Renault need to get their pricing right with the new Megane, I cant see many wanting to pay more for nicely speccced Cupped car than the equivalent FRS.

Have to say, it looks horrendous in silver wheels. Just doesn't sit right at all.

Totally agree Penn, it has to have the black wheels and the blue, but the red looks good tooBig Smile

Cars like this should be in bold colours not the boring monotone Germanic hues.

I would always say the black alloys were needed, but saw one on silver and as something to be a little bit more under the radar that the Mrs can tootle about in... if it was mine it'd be blue with black alloys, obviously

Though probably will end up with something else if I'm being realistic. I'd like her to have one, but as she'll drive it the most...

I think it looks quite good with the silver wheels, especially with the bodywork in black.

Really drove mine for the first time at defcon 1 the other day in terms of not just straight line but some hard braking into corners and found it actually has some lift off oversteer, really reminded me of how the Megane felt in terms of rear end mobility.

I know it's perhaps not to pinnacle of laptimes at the 30k point (mainly due to weight I'd guess) and Chris Harris raised the question in the CTR test of does it "need" to be 4wd....Clearly it doesn't as far as ring times goes but as far as it been a laugh, as far as the performance been easily accessible and as far as it making press headlines and dragging in new customers I think it was a good call.

I don't know if it's in the latest xbox/ps games or something but kids (and their parents) seem to love it as if it's a Ferrari. Clearly it's been marketed very well (the fact that it sucked me in) and I think the 4wd was a key point in allowing that marketing to achieve what it has.

On the downside I checked the coolant and oil levels at 4k...both were on max...just checked them at 6.5k and both are at half of what they were at 4k...sure it's nowt but what with "all" the engine dramas we'll see...

Also now it's got 6k on the clock it's more fuel efficient than the Megane.

so sure, its good for the road, in all conditions, but unless you're driving it pretty hard can't say it flows. it does when you're on the right roads and you're driving at a decent pace.

having said that, not sure what else i'd really choose right now...maybe be a bit different and get the mustang v8? bit more of an event to drive and own perhaps...?

Kinda similar feelings, it's not the rocket ship you would expect with 350 or whatever hp you're running however when you check the speedometer it perhaps makes the speed feel too easy. Having said that it is in the same performance class as a Megane 275, Golf R Cupra 290 etc imo. 'Hyper Hatch' is too much.

I think the weight is more apparent in a straight-line than the bends.

Alternative I recon if you could stomach the risk/daily costs..used GTR..and with a map....

You're totally right. Fan club is huge, which is quite nice actually. Ours still thirsty with 2500 miles fine. No oil or coolant use, touch wood. Faster than it feels, but I think it works best when driven pretty hard that's when it feels best.

Hear what you're saying about 4wd, but for 30k I really think I deserve 4wd...

Mine is thirsty round town but similar m-way mpg to my 250.
In 10000 miles it has not used a drop of coolant or oil.

Tbh the Focus RS has been reviewed to death. It's a decent car, not the pinnacle of 30k-ish hot hatchery but offers something a little bit different. I'm sure fords marketing team took home some nice bonuses for their work on it!

Well seems every car built up until July 2017 will be going back for a minimum of a new head gasket and a cylinder head if it fails an initial pressurisation test.

Would seem they were accidently fitting the head gasket that's used on the Eco Boost Mustang on the Focus. How it took them 18 months to suss that out....

https://www.autoevolutio...sket-failure-122859.html

Couple of days work per car, will cost Ford a few quid.

Good to see that after identifying an issue they then pinpoint root cause and take remedial action.

True, but my luck with dealership experience continue, had its first annual service today, talking to the receptionist when I dropped it off this morning (didn't know anything about the whole engine saga etc fair enough)...

Picked the thing up this afternoon, literally have half a foot out the door and am informed the recall has just come through and it can now be booked in. Sigh. Gonna leave it a month so at least the techs get some practice in first!
