Personally, I think the edc farty exhaust noise would get a bit tiresome after a while, I've been watching lots of youtube videos, mainly edc cars and I am fed up with the noise already. Just my opinion, I am sure others will love it.

I was also set on the sunroof until I learned about the roof lining, very frustrating grrrrrr.

It's good to know that you feel the standard suspension is as good as they say, although with it being free here I had to go for the cup, mainly just for the lsd.

It's the same with most cars.

With the EDC/DSG ect they basically inject extra fuel to fake the popping noises on up and downshifts.

You either love it or hate it, but I've grown quite tired of hearing popping and burbling when I'm just bumbling around at 40!

I also don’t like the EDC’s farting on the upshifts but i like the burble and poping on the overruns. The I30N does it quite well and it’s got a manual. And i do agree that having it all the time may get annoying but that’s why we nowadays have the driving modes, i want in sport to be loud and farty but in normal to be quiet and comfy. In the megane rs with manual box the driving modes will alter less stuff, the steering the ESC, the fake sound in the speakers and maybe the exhaust. Oh and btw, launch control it’s such a gimmick....

Totally agree the GFs TTS sounds like a flatulent cow going down the road, it is just plain embarrassing. I suppose the 'bum fluff' brigade will like it but imo it is another good reason to give 'Mr Flappy' a wide berthLOL

I only get the farting and popping in Race mode, almost none in normal and just a bit in Sport, but even in Race mode it's far from intrusive.

I'm obviously the odd one out here as I love the EDC, not as an automatic but as a manual using the paddles instead of that slow and lazy gear stick ;-)
I remember my first company car was a Jetta GTi and I ordered a specific colour so I could get the light (grey) headlining but they gave me a red one from the pool which had an all black interior. I hated it, it made me feel sleepy when driving and any passengers in the back felt closed in and sometimes a bit sick, so I vowed never to get an all black interior again. I saw some time ago that the only way to get the lighter headlining in the new Megane was to opt for the sunroof so if I manage to find the money for one it's sunroof and light headlining all day long with an EDC.
Damn, that means I'd have to have that bloody awful e-brake thing. I hate them, they kind of force you to use the E (hand) brake when parked which causes the brakes to lock on in our -20°C or lower winters. With the Clio I can honestly say that in 18 months I've never used the hand brake.

Not keen personally. It’s ok on large displacement engines where is sounds more natural, but on small capacity engines e.g. 2 litre 4pots, it sounds contrived and a bit naff.

Exactly Georgski, there is nothing better than the sound of a burbling AMG Merc or your screaming 4 Litre V8 in the M3 but a 4 pot sounding like a Scouser after a night on the curry is not a goodConfused

I blame VAG for starting this crazy trend off, it is not big and it is not cleverLOL

So, my local dealer is dismissive and rude. ONly dealer within 100 miles who is planning on getting a demonstrator can't tell me exactly when they'll have it.. still waiting for them to update me.

Lease co put me in touch with dealer group who them sent my details to renault uk who rang to offer a drive in a 1 litre, they haven't got a RS apparently.

I have 30k ready to spend but i want to drive this before i commit. No one appears to be able to get me into a car but Renault uk has TWO cars available for youtube idiots to kick footballs at?

Frustration indeed and I cannot even bring myself to comment on that pathetic videoClown Clown

RUK do have a number of cars, including the one that Jeremy had ordered, but seem embarrassed to admit it.
RS Specialist dealers drove them at a Goodwood jolly at the beginning of May and they were at the Silverstone speed weekend - Overall though it is complete radio silence.

I'm beginning to wonder if a RUK have received a 'top secret' missive from France telling them to adopt a very low profile until August when a new release announcement will be made for September 1.
At least by then dealers will/should have their demos (originally expected in June now put back until mid July) and Palencia will hopefully have sorted its supply issues.

In spite of all this I do think, having had the opportunity to drive one at Spa, that it is worth waiting for what is a quite remarkable car.
Just remains to be seen if the 6 or 7 people that have stuck with it and now received delivery dates on their orders actually get their cars - albeit with amended specs.
Everyone has their limits though and I have already advised my dealer that if my car is as much as 1 day late that their stock will be increasing by 1 as I will, on principle, be walking away from the deal.

That video. Utterly confused target market.

30k performance car being targeted at early twenties based on what I saw.

It’s all wrong.

Perhaps WLTP is causing some issues that Renault don’t want to make public?

From what I have seen when my grandson is on FB this is fairly typical of the output that 20 somethings watch - welcome to the 21st century.

I think you'll have to give them a bit more leeway than that!

ok, so after all the moaning i've been doing, and being told "no" by everyone i approach to get a drive, it turns out there's a company car test event that RENAULT are participating in, and there's going to be a RS 280 there..!

Why the **** didnt anyone mention this to me? the lease co? the dealers, renault themselves? I've completely come across this by accident!

I don't know whether to be pleased i found it or pissed off that no-one has mentioned it?!

https://www.companycarinaction.co.uk/2018-models

I've registered. Hopefully i'll be able to get in a RS next week subject to being able to get over there on one of the two days its running.

I'll report back how it goes. Fingers crossed.

The 'free' cup offer has now expired - cost is £1500 if you want that.
PCP is available at 0% over 3 years or 3.9% over 4.

LOL so we are all waiting to see a review on the new RS 280 in the UK and we get a couple of muppets trying to kick footballs into the boot. Great test I do that every other day.....and ping pong balls on a Monday.

Look, I realise most are suffering from world cup-itis but instead of kicking balls into the boot let's see someone drive one to Russia.
A much better test.

I had a Fiesta ST Mountune 185 about 8 or so years ago, the old model with the 2.0 Duratec.

After the Mountune upgrade, it popped and burbled on downshifts, and sounded absolutely brilliant on full throttle. Very, very loud, but hilarious at the same time. Absolutely unpractical for daily use and I ended up putting a quieter resonated exhaust on as the drone was too much.

I think the manufacturers are trying to engineer these noises in to give the same feeling, but without the downsides.

The whole farting on upshifts thing is a bit silly. It's basically just flat shifting. You can do it with a manual but it's horribly unsympathetic to the car!

I like the occasional pop and burble, but I need to feel I've earned it, and the DSG noises all feel pretty synthetic (I get the very occasional loud bang in the Caterham when I've been driving it hard, which I'm pretty sure is unburnt fuel being dumped into the exhaust, it scares the crap out of me every time!)

So i made it down to this event late yesterday at Millbrook, only just managed to get in there before it closed BUT i managed to get to the Renault area and i got the last ride of the day in the Megane R.S.

No one was getting to drive the RS, only passenger rides but not an issue as they had touring car driver JACK GOFF as the driver!

I have absolutely no words to describe just how blindingly, blisteringly quick this guy made the megane go around the millbrook handling circuit. insane speeds and 4 wheel drifts everywhere. also went on to the bowl and although it wouldn't go over about 152/3 ish the rate at which it gets up to that speed is incredible. Felt absolutely planted too even though the banking is pretty bumpy.

Deeply impressed with what this car can do. Interesting Jack has a fk8 civic R as his company wheels so he was a good guy to chat to given my decision dilemma.

Car was a manual in orange, all the options incl cup, 19"s, alcantara etc. This was also at speed machine the other week along with the white one in the car park (the football/ youtube car i suspect). I also met and chatted to the head of renault fleet so and got his details so i'm hoping that he's be able to hook me up with a proper demo at some point shortly.

Nice write up Rob.e

Heard similar regarding Jack Goff from a friend of mine who attended.

Interesting to note that the car there did not have the cup chassis and therefore no LSD.
The anticipation levels waiting for mine are growing daily.

No danger of me taking mine to JG levels but it is going to be a lot of fun and I imagine the Trophy version, when it arrives, will be insane.
