Mégane Renaultsport Phase 2 heightens driving pleasure
Renaultsport fans are finally able to get their hands on the latest technology from Renault's Dieppe factory after New Mégane Renaultsport Phase 2 went on sale at dealerships across the country on February 1st.
The eagerly awaited follow-up to the eye-catching Mégane Renaultsport has subtle styling changes but some key comfort and technological advancements designed to heighten the driving pleasure.
One development that is expected to prove particularly popular is the Power Start launch control system. This allows an optimum amount of traction and power to be transmitted to the road from a starting position without having to lift the throttle, thanks to a fine-tuning of the Electronic Stability Control (ESP) and Traction Control (TC) systems.
On most ESP/TC systems, lifting the clutch at high revs automatically limits the engine torque to prevent wheelspin causing the engine to 'bog down'. The new Traction Control system programmes the system to recognise when the driver demands a performance start is wanted. The engine revs can be raised to around 4000rpm and when the clutch is engaged, the traction control will ensure engine torque is maintained at the highest possible level that can be transmitted to the road.
In addition, the ESP has been completely revised in order to act as a driver aid rather than a safety net. Understeer control is progressively activated at the turn-in point to limit the car 'pushing on' and allow more accurate cornering. Oversteer thresholds have also been repositioned to allow a higher level of agility, with greater angles of oversteer tolerated before the system is triggered.
Developers are confident that thanks to the new tune, and with a skilled driver at the wheel, the vehicle performs equally well with ESP switched on as with it switched off and this applies in all conditions including wet, dry or even snowy roads.
