Brewed for success: WP Group & Renault UK Clio Cup renew fuel, lubricants supply agreement through to 2018

The WP Group will continue as the official supplier of fuel and engine lubricants to the Renault UK Clio Cup through to the end of 2018 at least after extending its current agreement with the championship for a further three years.

WP has provided the service every year since 2003 and in that time it has proved to be an ultra-reliable partner to the championship in delivering the 20,000 litres of fuel needed to power the UK Clio Cup grid each season.

Indeed much of its work includes importing the highly-potent unleaded 99.1 RON fuel used – brewed by Panta Racing near the Monza Formula 1 circuit in Italy – to its refinery in Southampton and then distributing it onwards to the UK Clio Cup paddock at British Touring Car events.

Among WP’s other motor sport customers is the British Superbike Championship while Panta Fuel is used by teams in the World Rally Championship.

Similarly WP is an expert in handling and distributing the ELF lubricants used exclusively in the 1.6 turbocharged engines that power each of the race-spec Clio Renaultsport 220 Trophy cars on the UK Clio Cup grid.

WP Racing Manager Anthony Webb commented: “We’re very proud to renew our current agreement with the Renault UK Clio Cup. It’s a very successful partnership and being aligned to one of the world’s largest automotive manufacturers, Renault, and its flagship motor sporting activity in the UK adds considerable kudos to our portfolio and service – particularly at a time when the championship is on the up.

“The fuel we deliver is blended specifically for competition and clearly it offers a quality and level of consistency not found at the pump. The UK Clio Cup works tremendously hard at ensuring and maintaining parity of equipment for its grid so we treat that quality and consistency of our fuel and lubricants with the utmost importance.”

Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes said: “WP have demonstrated over the past 12 years and more a very clear understanding of the UK Clio Cup’s requirements. Indeed, going into our 2016 season, they have been able reduce the cost per litre of the racing fuel they supply…

"The UK Clio Cup always prides itself on being able to add value for its teams and drivers so this reduction in price – which will be of great benefit to each of our customers over the course of the season – plus the reliability that WP have demonstrated previously made them an obvious choice.”
