Paul Streather (Hinckley) has announced plans to contest a full Renault UK Clio Cup season in 2016 with the Finesse Motorsport team with which he enjoyed a sensational debut outing in the championship’s final rounds of this year.

Streather came close to upstaging newly crowned Champion Ashley Sutton in the final round of the season – three times he got ahead of him on the legendary Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit before finishing a fighting second.

The 26-year-old had previously run his own car to second place in the club-level Clio Cup Series before joining forces with Finesse for the Clio Cup finale. That relationship now continues into the 2016 season with continued sponsorship from Michael Smith Switchgear and AVW Fabrications.

Streather commented: “We’ve now ordered a new UK Clio Cup race car so we can do some testing in the winter break – so hopefully we can be challenging inside the top six when the new season starts. I went into the Brands Hatch event with very little seat time and know there’s more to come from me in one of these cars.

“I have tested a few other cars recently but the Clio Cup car really stands out in terms of engineering, handling and overall performance. Plus I really like the set-up of the championship and the atmosphere in the paddock. The publicity the championship receives is also a big draw.”

Finesse Team Principal Neil Giddings added: “We are very much looking forward to working with Paul again in 2016 – obviously we had a great time in the final rounds of 2015 together but already we are seeing just how much competitive the UK Clio Cup is going to be in 2016 with a couple more of the BTCC teams like Ciceley and HARD getting involved. It’s going to be a fantastic technical challenge for any team joining the grid.

“We’ve got a proven past in the UK Clio Cup and our pace with Paul at the Brands Hatch finale was we believe again evidence of how good at engineering a car we are. We are definitely open to running more than one car.”

Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes said: “This is yet more fantastic news for the UK Clio Cup. Paul’s and Finesse’s performance at Brands Hatch was nothing short of sensational and I am sure they will be joining the list of driver-team combinations to challenge for race wins and the title in 2016. We’re delighted to see them on our grid.”
