Former champ Bushell upbeat after first tests and full of praise for team-mate Proctor

Returning 2014 Champion Mike Bushell says his preparations so far for the new Renault UK Clio Cup season are on target and he is also tipping Team Pyro team-mate Senna Proctor for “great things” after they tested together last week.

After a season in the British Touring Car Championship, Bushell is back on the UK Clio Cup grid in 2016.

Last week he and Pyro took to the track at Brands Hatch, Kent and Thruxton, Hampshire. It will be at Brands Hatch – on the venue’s short Indy lay-out – that the new UK Clio Cup season gets under way on Sat 2/Sun 3 April along with the opening rounds of the 2016 BTCC.

Bushel (pictured top at Thruxton) commented: “I’d say we’re bang on target at the moment and I’m very pleased with the times we’ve putting in.

“However it is just general testing so it’s difficult to really get a true picture of what drivers in other teams are doing and, of course, our paths haven’t crossed yet with a couple of drivers in particular I can think of… But it is all looking very good.”

He also had plenty of praise for ‘rookie’ team-mate Proctor, who is backed by top BTCC team BMR.

Bushell enthused: “He’s been looking very good, straight away. I think he’s going to be right up there in a very short period of time. I can predict great things for him – he’s going places.”

Proctor (pictured above left) said he was happy with progress made so far as he continues to learn the art of driving a front-wheel-drive racing car – he is graduating to the UK Clio Cup after two season in rear-wheel-drive Ginetta Juniors.

He added: “Testing went very well last week and at Thruxton we were very quick in both the wet and dry conditions. I am pleased with our testing so far and I believe I am adapting to the car very well.”
