KARTING ACE PALMER LATEST EXCITING YOUNG TALENT TO JOIN RENAULT UK CLIO CUP GRID

Multiple karting champion Ben Palmer (Maidenhead) has become the latest driver to enter the Renault UK Clio Cup and will make his championship debut with the 20Ten Racing team in this weekend’s (Sat 10/Sun 11 Oct) final rounds of the season at Kent’s Brands Hatch circuit.

Palmer, aged 20, has previously won numerous regional and club-level karting titles and raced successfully at national level as well when he was a team-mate to current UK Clio Cup title protagonist Ashley Sutton. Since moving into cars he has also achieved class title success in the MG Owners Club Championship.

“The UK Clio Cup is where I want to be in 2016 and this is an opportunity to impress a few potential sponsors,” commented Palmer. “But every driver in the Clio Cup is very fast and both the car and the Brands Hatch GP circuit this weekend will be new to me. On saying that, I have two test sessions on Friday to acclimatise so hope to get inside the top ten if not in qualifying then certainly one of the two races.”

Palmer’s arrival means three exciting young talents at 20Ten, with Sam Watkins (Swansea) and Tom Butler (Derby) again part of its line-up at Brands Hatch after both dazzled on their debuts at Silverstone a fortnight ago.

Team Principal Simon Hunt said: “We’re very pleased to have Ben with us for this weekend. His karting record is very impressive and drivers with strong karting backgrounds tend to adapt to the UK Clio Cup car really well. He has looked very good straight away in cars too. Having three hungry young drivers is also very good for 20Ten as they will push each other for strong results.”

Will Fewkes, Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager, added: “These are truly exciting times for the Renault UK Clio Cup with more and more young drivers, each boasting strong records in a variety of racing categories, all being drawn towards our grid. The depth in talent is there for all to see… It’s also great news for 20Ten Racing to have Ben on board – with Tom and Sam, its line-up is now very probably the strongest it has been during its time so far in the UK Clio Cup.”
