RENAULT UK CLIO CUP’S LINKS WITH BTCC STRENGTHEN EVEN FURTHER WITH SEDGWICK/COOKSPORT DEAL

The arrival of British Touring Car Championship ace Adam Morgan’s protégé Alex Sedgwick in the Renault UK Clio Cup marks just the latest in an increasing number of ties the championship has with the BTCC.

Sedgwick will make his Clio Cup debut with Morgan’s fellow BTCC racer (and 2014 Clio Cup runner-up) Josh Cook’s Team Cooksport outfit at Silverstone in just over two weeks’ time

Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes (pictured left) said: “We very much welcome Alex to the Clio Cup grid. It is fantastic to see his presence add to the ever-increasing strong ties the championship already has with the BTCC and which simply add to the levels of professionalism and credibility surrounding the Renault UK Clio Cup.

“The fact we work with the same tyre partner as the BTCC, Dunlop, is one. Not only is Alex joining a team run by one of the BTCC’s hottest emerging properties in Josh Cook, he is a protégé of BTCC driver Adam Morgan just as our current championship leader Ash Hand is mentored by Andy Priaulx.

“BMR Restart, one of the top BTCC teams, has shown its faith in the Clio Cup by supporting Ashley Sutton while another BTCC racer, Stewart Lines, is behind the Maximum Motorsport squad that now runs Ant Whorton-Eales’s car.

“The modern-day BTCC grid is also full of drivers who have come through the ‘Renaultsport family’, such as Andy and Josh, Jason Plato, Mat Jackson, Andrew Jordan, Dave Newsham, Colin Turkington, Jack Goff, Mike Bushell, Rob Austin… the list goes on.”
