On a fully dry track and using Dunlop’s latest tyre compound, the Team BMR Restart with Pyro driver set a best lap time of 51.885 seconds – that is well beneath both the existing qualifying and race lap records.
Furthermore he was the only driver to creep into the 51-seconds bracket.
His Pyro team-mate Ash Hand was next up (52.126s) followed by SV Racing duo Jack Mitchell (52.24s) and Ant Whorton-Eales (52.302s). Team Cooksport’s Charles Ladell (52.473s) and Pyro’s session one pace-setter Brett Smith (52.562s) completed the top six.
SVR’s Ben Seyfried, 20Ten Racing’s Jordan Stilp and WDE’s Paul Rivett followed, also within a second of the flying Sutton. George Jackson was the fastest of the three JamSport drivers in tenth.
But Team BKR’s Freddie Hunt was unable to take part having damaged his car in a crash in this morning’s opening session.
The cars and drivers will next be on track tomorrow for the opening qualifying session of 2015 (12.05pm-12.35pm) in which their two fastest lap times will decide the order in which they line up on the grid for the weekend’s two races.
