Title challenger Pattison officially confirmed at JHR

Lee Pattison, Vice-Champion of the Renault UK Clio Cup in 2010, will be aiming to go one better when the new season gets underway after today, Monday, 10th March, being officially confirmed as JHR Developments’ chief title challenger.

With just under three weeks to go until the start of the 2014 championship, the 39-year-old from Scholes in West Yorkshire is certain to be one of the front-running contenders from the off having accrued a significant amount of experience in one-make saloon cars over the past eight years.

Making his Renault UK Clio Cup debut in 2008, becoming a race winner in his maiden campaign, a couple of years later Pattison put together his best season so far when he bagged two victories and five other podiums on his way to the Vice-Champion’s position.

After two full seasons away from Clio action, Pattison returned to the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support category last year in time for the second race meeting of the campaign at Donington Park.

In only his third race back, at ultra-fast Thruxton in Hampshire, the JHR racer starred with a superb outright victory before adding a similarly impressive runner-up spot in race two. Also eligible for the ‘Masters Cup’, Pattison claimed the most class wins of any driver with a total of 10 for the season.

JHR team owner Steven Hunter, a former Renault UK Clio Cup front-runner himself, is confident Pattison can be a consistent title contender in the first season for the new, fourth generation racing Clio, and is setting his sights high.

“Considering the results of previous years, especially becoming Vice-Champion in 2010, Lee will try and go one better than that this season”, said Hunter, “Over the last couple of years, his racing has certainly matured – he has a more fluent way of driving now and that showed last season. Everyone at JHR is really looking forward to the challenge of the new Clio and, of course, working with Lee.”

Rounds one and two of the 2014 Renault UK Clio Cup will take place over the weekend 29th/30th March at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit in Kent. Before then, the championship contenders will be on track at Rockingham in Northamptonshire for the officially timed pre-season test on Wednesday, 19th March.

Renault UK Clio Cup is supported by ELF, Performance Friction, WP Racing and official tyre supplier Dunlop.
