In-build video launched to guide prospective Clio Cup Road Series racers

Prospective racing drivers eyeing participation in the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series in 2014 now have the perfect tool available to guide them through the stages of converting a Clio Renaultsport 197 to race specification – the launch of a step-by-step video guide from series promoter Grovewood Sport.

With the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series and its sister Michelin Clio Cup Race Series both gaining full championship status from next year, organisers are expecting significantly boosted grids in each tier for the second season of the burgeoning category.

In conjunction with championship partner Monster Sport Europe, an extensive and in-depth video has been created in which MSE’s Nicky Finlayson and Andrew Gardiner take the viewer through each of the processes involved in turning a Clio Renaultsport 197 road car into a genuine racing saloon.

The video can be viewed on You Tube now at:

Utilising the recently enhanced official conversion kit, which contains everything required to make the transformation from road to race car with the exception of the Safety Devices prefabricated Roll Cage Protection System (ROPS), the experts offer a fascinating insight and key guidance in the film.

The kit, available exclusively through Milton Keynes-based Monster Sport Europe, is priced at just £4,183.58 plus VAT and has been recently upgraded to now include a Milltek exhaust system, new induction kit and Ferodo DS11 front brake pads.

Renaultsport Technologies suspension from the Clio Renaultsport R3 Access asphalt rally car, a Renaultsport branded seat and steering wheel, seat rail set, a HANS (Head and Neck Support) device compatible safety harness and electric cut-out switch also come included.

Additionally, there is a Pipercross Air Filter and bespoke adjustable top mount conversion kit, competition clutch plate, interior items such as roll cage padding and window net, bonnet pins, tow hooks and a fire system with extinguisher.

With the Safety Devices roll cage added on, priced at £985 plus VAT through Renaultsport agent Mark Fish Motorsport, those already in ownership of a donor Clio Renaultsport 197 can have a fully race-legal machine for only marginally over £5,000.

“Michelin Clio Cup Road Series provides an outstanding starting point for those wanting to begin car racing, either youngsters graduating from karts or trackday enthusiasts keen to take the next step and move into active competition”, said championship manager Simon North, “It is incredible value for money and an opportunity to break into professionally run motorsport very cost-effectively.

“Anyone with a third generation Clio Renaultsport 197 roadcar can theoretically transform it into race specification for just over £5,000, really opening up saloon car racing to those who may have originally thought it was beyond their reach financially.”

North added: “We’ve enjoyed a successful first year with the Road Series and we’re confident our fantastic new video will entice more drivers into the championship, especially when they see how quickly a Clio roadcar can become race-ready. The guys at Monster Sport Europe walk you through each step of the conversion process with crystal clear explanations – it’s an essential tool to have.”

Current Michelin Clio Cup Road Series competitor Jake Honour (Melksham), who achieved his first class race victories during the Autumn Cup event at Rockingham in Northamptonshire earlier this month, is the prime example of a driver making the leap from trackday enthusiast to successful competition racer after converting his own Clio Renaultsport 197.

From racing rookie at the beginning of the year, the 22-year-old purchased the official conversion kit from Monster Sport Europe and transformed his road-going Clio in his spare time before embarking on his maiden season of motorsport at any level – with set-up assistance from Jade Developments.
