Following the success of the inaugural ‘Clio Cup ARDS Test Day’ earlier this month, where car racing novices were able to gain their competition licence before testing a race-ready Clio Renaultsport 197, Michelin Clio Cup Road Series organisers have announced a second such day for the New Year.
Rockingham National Circuit in Northamptonshire will once again be the venue for the event which will take place on Saturday, 8th February, providing the perfect opportunity for karting graduates and motorsport newcomers to accelerate their move into the world of saloon car racing.
Leading Michelin Clio Cup Road Series teams Monster Sport Europe, SWB Motorsport and Jade Developments, which all reported very positive feedback from the initial day, will be on hand again with their Clio Renaultsport 197 cars for the second Clio Cup ARDS Test in February.
So glowing was the reaction to the inaugural day from those who took part, organisers are confident of a healthy take-up for the second event. Kart racer Stephen Bull, who hopes to move into Renault Clio racing in 2014, signed-up for the first Clio Cup ARDS day and was full of praise for the initiative.
“It was a good idea having the ARDS test followed by the Clio test as it gave me a good idea of what's involved and has made possible plans for the future”, he commented, “Everyone was friendly, even the weather was good, and I could test the car in all conditions. There's nothing I could fault about the day at all – a big thank you to all who set up and organised the day.”
February’s date will follow exactly the same format as the first Clio Cup ARDS Test Day. Attendees will first be taken through their ARDS (Association of Racing Drivers Schools) test and, when completed, will be given the opportunity to take to the track in a Michelin Clio Cup Road Series car.
Following a five lap familiarisation of Rockingham’s 1.7-mile National Circuit, accompanied by a fully qualified instructor, each driver will then enjoy two 10 lap runs at the wheel of a Clio Renaultsport 197 fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport 3 road tyres.
Priced at £700 plus VAT for the full day, the booking process is open now and places can be secured by visiting http://store.rockingham.co.uk/SearchResults.asp?Cat=67 or by calling Will Thomas at Rockingham on 01536 270143. All drivers taking part must be 16-years-of-age or older.
The teams which will be running Clio Renaultsport 197 cars on the day will require a fully refundable bond of £2,000 from each driver via credit card, to be held against any potential damage. Should any damage be caused to one of the Clios, the cost of repair will be taken from the given driver’s bond.
“Our first Clio Cup ARDS Test Day was thoroughly enjoyed by those who took part and we received fantastic feedback from the teams involved”, said Simon North, promoter of the Michelin Clio Cup Road Series, “Naturally, we were very eager to work with Rockingham again in organising a second day and we’re delighted to confirm this will take place in February.
“It’s the perfect opportunity for kart racers, those who enjoy trackdays and also complete track novices to gain their racing licence and test a race-ready Clio all in the same day. We’re sure it will prove to be very popular.”
Along with headline sponsors Michelin and Protyre, the Clio Cup Series is additionally supported by Safety Devices, Mark Fish Motorsport and The Lubricant Consultancy.
