Total Control Racing is the latest top team to confirm a multi-car entry in the 2014 Michelin Clio Cup Race Series after today, Monday, 3rd February, signing a deal for category race winner Andy Jordan (Bridgnorth) to partner Mike Robinson (Surbiton).
Aiming to field a four car line-up for its maiden season in the championship, the Wednesbury squad is hoping to challenge for the title and is confident it already has the makings of a hugely successful year with its initial driver pairing.
“We’re really pleased to have Andy in the team for 2014, he had a good end to last season and we’re sure he can be a podium regular this year”, said TCR team principal Lee Brookes, “It’s great Mike has wanted to come back to Clios this year and we know he’ll be right at the front, the aim is to fight for the championship.”
Jordan, who competed in the inaugural year of Clio Cup Series action in 2013 as a privateer entrant, won two races and secured two other podiums as well during the final four races of the eight-round campaign.
His first association with Lee Brookes’ squad came back in 2010 when he made a one-off appearance in the British Touring Car Championship-supporting Renault UK Clio Cup. Winning the Euro Saloons title in 2011, running his own car, Jordan remained in the club-level category in 2012 before moving into the professionally run one-make Michelin Clio Cup Race Series last year.
Robinson, who returns to Renault racing for the first time since 2010, has been competing with TCR since making his front-wheel drive debut in the 2007 Renault UK Clio Cup Winter Series. Contesting the main championship season for the next two years, finishing sixth overall each time, he was an improved fifth in 2010.
Going on to become Ginetta Challenge Vice-Champion with TCR in 2012, taking four race victories along the way, Robinson went on to race in the Britcar Production Cup last year in a TCR-engineered SEAT Leon Cupra.
“It’s fantastic news for the championship TCR will be involved in the Michelin Clio Cup Series this year, the team has been an integral part of Renault UK’s national motorsport programme for the best part of 20 years”, said category promoter Simon North.
“Andy was one of the quickest drivers in the Series last year and his two wins were well deserved, I’m sure he’s going to be a strong challenger from the off with TCR’s experience behind him. We’re delighted to see Mike returning to Renault Clios, he was a consistent competitor in the Renault UK Clio Cup for a number of seasons and he really will be a driver to beat in the Clio Cup Series.”
Following the official pre-season test and Media Day at Rockingham on Wednesday, 19th March, the Michelin Clio Cup Race Series, and accompanying Michelin Clio Cup Road Series, will get underway at the Northamptonshire venue on 5th/6th April.
Along with headline sponsors Michelin and Protyre, the Clio Cup Series is additionally supported by Ferodo and Safety Devices.
