The 15-year-old from Chorley was a front-runner in the category’s inaugural championship in 2017 with a best race result of second place.

He becomes the first driver to confirm his seat on 2018’s grid. He made his announcement with his prime sponsor, natural alkaline water brand Angel Revive, on its stand at the Autosport International Show at NEC Birmingham.

Louis commented: “I’ve got a great sponsor in Angel Revive and a great team in JamSport behind me and, having learnt a lot in 2017, I feel confident we can push for race wins and possibly, even, the title in 2018.

“After the Autosport Show I hope we can soon begin our pre-season testing programme to make sure we hit the ground running when the new season begins.”

Jamie Going, Team Principal of Northampton-based JamSport, said: “Louis really impressed us in 2017 and was, in fact, unfortunate not to collect at least four podium results – that is some going considering he has not been racing as long as many of his rivals. He is a real talent for the future.”

UK Clio Cup Junior is for drivers aged 14 to 17 competing in identical racing versions of the cars used in the senior Renault UK Clio Cup which features alongside the high profile British Touring Car Championship. The only differences – to meet junior racing regulations – are they are limited to five gears and 100mph and are fitted with high performance Michelin road tyres instead of racing ‘slicks’.

The Clio Cup Junior Champion will win a free registration into the UK Clio Cup – a prize valued at £18,000. The new season (12 rounds across six events) starts at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix venue of Silverstone on the weekend of Sat 24/Sun 25 March. CLICK HERE for the full dates.

Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: “It’s great to get announcing drivers for the 2018 Clio Cup Junior grid and Louis is a real attribute. He’s clearly talented both on and off the track and we look forward – as we do with all our drivers – to giving him the right environment in which to develop his racing career.”
