The 16-year-old confirmed he had re-signed with the Bristol-based team at the Autosport Internal Show at Birmingham’s NEC today.

Jack won the inaugural Clio Cup Junior championship last November with a stirring comeback drive in the final round at Brands Hatch which also saw him set a new lap record.

For 2018 Jack will again be sponsored, among others, by Genesis Telecom. He commented: “That was quite an exciting ending at Brands Hatch because there were three of us who could have come away from that race as Champion – hopefully this year I can win it again but without giving my team and family such an anxious time!

“But I’m under no illusions. I know it will be a very tough task as the championship attracts some really talented drivers and this year it has also expanded to 12 rounds instead of eight with four new circuits to learn as well. It’s a challenge I’m really looking forward to.”

Mike Ritchie, Team Principal of MRM, said: “I’m delighted to keep Jack on board for 2018 as I very much see him as part of our future plans as well. He is a cracking driver and we’re very excited to be working with him again in 2018.”

UK Clio Cup Junior is for drivers aged 14 to 17 competing in identical racing versions of the cars used in the senior Renault UK Clio Cup which features alongside the high profile British Touring Car Championship. The only differences – to meet junior racing regulations – are they are limited to five gears and 100mph and are fitted with high performance Michelin road tyres instead of racing ‘slicks’.

The Clio Cup Junior Champion will win a free registration into the UK Clio Cup – a prize valued at £18,000. The new season (12 rounds across six events) starts at the British Formula 1 Grand Prix venue of Silverstone on the weekend of Sat 24/Sun 25 March. CLICK HERE for the full dates.

Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: “Jack returning to defend his title is more positive news for Clio Cup Junior and also MRM – it’s always great to see new names coming to the fore and without doubt they will begin the new season among the title favourites.
