Discounted tickets still available to see thrilling UK Clio Cup & BTCC fixtures

Renault UK’s 2015 Clio Cup remains on course to be one of the most nail-biting in championship history with the top three drivers Ant Whorton-Eales, Ash Hand and Ashley Sutton going into the mid-season break with little to separate them in the points table.

Hand, driving for the Team Pyro squad, notched up his fifth win out of ten races at North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit at the end of June but it is SV Racing’s Whorton-Eales who still leads, albeit by just five points. Hand’s team-mate Sutton was also a winner at Croft and is just points behind leader Whorton-Eales with a maximum of 272 still to play for in the remaining eight rounds.

The first two of those rounds take place at Fife’s dramatic Knockhill circuit (23-24 Aug) with two races apiece to follow at Rockingham, Northants (5-6 Sept) Silverstone, Northants (26-27 Sept) and the legendary Brands Hatch GP circuit (10-11 Oct).

The Clio Cup races alongside Britain’s premier motor racing spectacle, the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship, and it is fair to say the action on track – shown live on ITV4 – has so far ranked alongside that of the BTCC for excitement and unpredictability.

“What a fantastic season this is turning out to be,” commented Renault UK Communications Director Jeremy Townsend. “The huge trackside crowds who attend the race events love what they are seeing in the Clio Cup and it is making for superb television for ITV Sport.

“We’ve got the characters, the storylines, the sub-plots and above all an utterly sensational title battle brewing between three young drivers who surely are going to be future stars of the BTCC. The quality of the product – both the Clio Cup race car and the technical support we offer our teams – is also making us stand out from the crowd and it is that credibility as well as the buzz among the media and fans that is leading to us already receiving considerable levels of interest from potentially new drivers and teams for 2016 and beyond.

“We cannot recall the last time there was so much excitement surrounding the Clio Cup and cannot wait for the season to resume in August at Knockhill – arguably the most dramatic circuit on the calendar.”

Adding further to the Clio Cup’s reputation for producing the top touring car names, five of the last six BTCC races have been won by ex Renaultsport racers – Jason Plato (Spider sportscar champion in 1996), Sam Tordoff (Clio Cup front-runner in 2011) and Andy Priaulx (Spider title-winner in ’99).
