Eighteen-year-old Ross’s signing means two teenagers will make their first Clio Cup appearance at Silverstone with Cooksport after the Bristol outfit recently also confirmed that Alex Sedgwick (Leamington Spa) would be joining its line-up.
Both Ross and Sedgwick join Cooksport off the back of regular drivers Rory Collingbourne (Newport, South Wales) and George Jackson (Bedford) achieving the best results of their Clio Cup careers so far last time out with strong fourth place results at Rockingham…
Ross commented: “The Renault UK Clio Cup is a route I’m looking at for the future so I was never going to turn down the opportunity to race with Cooksport at Silverstone. I’ve raced against some of the current drivers before in Fiestas including Collingbourne, Tom Grundy and Charlie Ladell so I hope I can be in among them at Silverstone – that would be my target.”
And said Team Principal Cook: “JJ’s achievements to date speak for themselves – he’s a talented driver with tons of potential and truly capable of making a big impact at Silverstone. It’s really exciting to welcome another youngster into the team for us and the championship. The Clio Cup is definitely the place to be for young aspiring drivers…”
Will Fewkes, Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager, added “It’s great to see the Renault UK Clio Cup attracting yet another exciting talent such as JJ and a team with strong BTCC links such as Cooksport further increasing their presence on the grid.
"It is yet more proof that the Clio Cup is the place to be for teams, young drivers and their sponsors looking to achieve credibility in a professional and high-profile motor sporting environment.”
