Grundy emerged as a front-running name in the championship with the Northampton-based squad in 2015 – notably challenging for outright podium positions at both Silverstone’s and Brands Hatch’s closing rounds.
The 18-year-old is the second driver to be announced so far by JamSport ahead of the new UK Clio Cup season – last month it excitingly announced that 2015 title protagonist Ant Whorton-Eales would switch to its line-up. This followed news that it has recently entered into a partnership with British Touring Car Championship race team, Team HARD.
Grundy commented: “Last year was a huge learning curve for both JamSport and I – our first full season in the UK Clio Cup. But we built a great relationship together and made big strides every time out – at Silverstone and Brands Hatch we were right up there towards the front fighting with the more experienced names.
“JamSport is also in the middle of its own very exciting expansion plans and with Ant coming on board as well I am totally convinced this is the place to be for 2016.”
JamSport Team Principal Jamie Going said: “Tom was one of the most exciting names to watch on the UK Clio Cup grid in 2015 so we are naturally very happy to see him return for 2016. He has massive potential and could be the ‘one to watch’ this coming season. Certainly in Tom and Ant we have already got a terrific pair of team-mates in place even before we announce the rest of our driver line-up.”
Renaultsport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: “It’s great to see Tom returning to our grid for 2016 – he was certainly one of the more colourful characters in the paddock and that extends to some of the terrific liveries his car appeared in! This will only be JamSport’s second full season in the UK Clio Cup but, even in a championship as fiercely competitive as this, they are rapidly gaining recognition as a team who can compete at the very front. It will be fascinating to see how their season unfolds…”
All 18 races on the 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup calendar will take place at the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship’s high-profile events – meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on the ITV4 channel. The first two races take place at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on Sat 2/Sun 3 April.
