Team Pyro’s Hand set a best lap of one minute, 32.467 seconds as less than a second covered the top six which was completed by SV Racing’s current championship leader Ant Whorton-Eales. In between them were WDE Motorsport’s Paul Rivett, Pyro’s Ashley Sutton, 20Ten Racing’s Jordan Stilp and JamSport Racing’s Dan Holland.
The only drama of note came when the session was halted to remove the unscathed car of Team Cooksport’s Rory Collingbourne from the gravel trap at Clervaux. Cooksport’s best-placed driver was Charles Ladell in eighth.
Championships ‘returnees’ Paul Donkin – from Bishop Auckland so local to Croft – and Peter Fellix were 11th and 13th fastest for the SVR and 20Ten teams respectively.
Hand said: “I’m very happy with that. We didn’t run new tyres at all and in fact spent a lot of the session focusing on long runs and race distances as it’s an abrasive circuit here. People will put new tyres on this afternoon which should make it a bit quicker.”
