Giddings, British GT4 title-winner in 2014, showed considerable pace in his previous two UK Clio Cup seasons in 2012 and 2013.
His ‘one-off’ at Thruxton will see him join current title protagonist Paul Streather (Hinckley) in the Finesse line-up. Streather (pictured left) won the season’s opening round at Brands Hatch last weekend and heads into this this coming weekend’s race event at Leicestershire’s Donington Park lying second in the drivers’ standings.
Giddings, aged 21, has already been seen in Finesse's 2016 UK Clio Cup car – in official testing at both Rockingham (pictured left) and Thruxton last week.
He commented: “Thruxton’s high-speed lay-out means every driver needs a good tow off their team-mate to qualify well on the grid – Paul’s main rivals in the championship have that luxury, but Paul doesn’t as Finesse so far is a one-car team. He’s on his own so hopefully I can help him get a slipstream when it counts on his fastest qualifying laps. I’ll also be hoping to work with him in a similar way in the two races. I always really enjoyed my team in the UK Clio Cup so it will be great fun to come back.”
Finesse Team Principal Neil Giddings said: “Jake doesn’t have any clashing GT commitments when we come to Thruxton in May so it makes perfect sense to bring him in to provide back-up for Paul at a circuit where getting a slipstream is critical if you want to be even half competitive. This is in our second car and we are very much open to offers to race it in the UK Clio Cup’s remaining rounds after Thruxton.”
Renault Sport UK’s Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes added: “Jake proved in our pre-season test at Rockingham and again in official testing last week at Thruxton he is as competitive as ever. Also particularly following Paul Streather’s fine victory at Brands Hatch that Finesse’s cars are among the most competitive in any motor racing championship in the UK. It’s a seat crying out to be filled by any top name currently not without a drive and looking to compete at Britain’s premier motor racing events.”
