Suffolk’s Ladell appeared to show strongly in testing last Thursday on his first visit to the Thruxton circuit where Rivett was absent away on honeymoon. Joining him was the team’s rookie driver Rory Green who suffered a heavy crash in his car…
Ladell, who impressed many with his maturity last year, said: “I’m feeling really confident about the forthcoming season. I’ve now been to most tracks and we’ve got a good testing programme lined up.
“I feel I can challenge for race wins and take the fight to Paul. I see no reason why I can’t match him and if that’s the case then I’d imagine I’m going to be somewhere in there fighting for the title.”
Testing at Thruxton ticked a big box for Bury St Edmonds racer Ladell – its high speeds make it the most fearsome circuit on the calendar and he clearly came away buoyed by his day’s work.
Ladell (pictured) added: “It was really important to do that test – I’ve never raced around there and the first few laps we pretty daunting. Certainly it’s nothing like anywhere that I’ve been before… Church Corner was the big one for me. It’s a lot faster than you think it’s going to be the first few times you come up to it but then you learn it opens out on the exit and there’s some big speed to be taken through there. It’s a very impressive corner.
“Overall I was really happy with my pace in the wet and in the dry I was starting to find some good speed before it rained. It’s nice to see where roughly we are against some of the others so early in the year. It was a really positive start…”
Meanwhile WDE Team Principal Wayne Eason said Green’s prang masked the youngster’s form on the day, commenting: “Rory had been going really well up until that point and was really getting into the groove with some excellent lines which is no mean feat around a place like Thruxton – the accident was just very unfortunate.”
