New Renault UK Clio Cup Junior cars begin arriving from France

The JamSport Racing team has this week taken delivery of the first brand new car built by Renault Sport Racing in France to regulations for 2017’s inaugural Renault UK Clio Cup Junior championship.

The car is one of 12 new machines to have been ordered in the past six weeks through Renault Sport UK importer R. Sport for use in either the senior UK Clio Cup which features at British Touring Car events or the new Junior championship for 14 to 17-year-old racing drivers.

A second new Junior-spec car is scheduled to arrive with the Westbourne Motorsport team at its West Sussex workshops next week with the remainder set to land by early New Year.

Teams will be able to use the same cars in either senior or Junior UK Clio Cup competition in 2017. All that differentiates the cars is a simple modification to the ECU (limiting the Junior-spec version to 100mph and five gears) and a switch between Michelin race or road tyres.

Meanwhile JamSport has already set about fettling its new Junior car in the team’s Northampton headquarters ahead of imminent testing.

JamSport Team Principal Jamie Going commented: “It’s a very exciting moment when a new car arrives from Renault Sport and it’s even more exciting knowing this is for the new Junior championship which we aim to be the first winner of!

“As ever the order and delivery process via R. Sport has been ultra-smooth and professional and the end product from Renault Sport Racing – the UK Clio Cup race car – is second to none in terms of engineering and manufacturing. It’s absolutely immaculate and we can’t wait to begin shaking the car down tomorrow during testing at Silverstone. What a cool championship this is going to be…”

In addition to being able to order cars through R. Sport – among the very best parts supplier for a motorsport manufacturer in the UK – teams and drivers are being offered further peace of mind thanks to a special finance deal with Moorgate Finance to help spread the cost when purchasing.

Those interested in joining the UK Clio Cup and UK Clio Cup Junior grids in 2017 should contact Renault Sport UK’s Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes will.fewkes-extern@renault.co.uk

He commented: “It’s great to see our first new cars beginning to arrive for competition in the UK next season. In fact this has been one of the busiest periods for close to a decade for Renault Sport UK in terms of new car orders straight after the end of a season and looking ahead to the next. It’s fair to say that business is brisk!

“We would, though, encourage those seriously considering a new-car purchase to place their order as soon as possible to ensure quick delivery ahead of beginning testing for the new season.”
