Rivett awarded Donington race 2 victory after being reinstated in results

In a revised result Paul Rivett has become the winner of Donington Park’s second Renault UK Clio Cup race after being reinstated to first position when it was stopped after ten of the scheduled 14 laps.

The race was red-flagged moments after Rivett’s and WDE Motorsport team-mate Lee Pattison’s cars had collided on a slippery track and wound up in a gravel trap.

At the time they had been running first and second (with Pattison ahead) but neither appeared in the initial result that was given. Instead the win was handed to Ciceley Motorsport’s Max Coates who had been third on the road when Rivett and Pattison tangled.

Further review of the evidence however showed Rivett had kept his car going through the gravel trap and was able to rejoin the track towards the end of field and he was duly reinstated by officials.

But this was not though the case with Pattison whose car was stuck in a gravel trap and deemed to be in a dangerous position. This meant he was ineligible for reinstatement.

By being reinstated Rivett, second at the end of the previous lap, inherits the win although this remains provisional pending an appeal by WDE against Pattison's removal from the result.

In the meantime Coates is classified in second ahead of Team Pyro’s Mike Bushell in third. DRM’s Daniel Rowbottom, who had originally been classified in third for his first UK Clio Cup podium result, drops to fourth and so on behind…

Provisionally Bushell leaves Donington leading the standings by 14 points from Coates with Rivett and Pattison close behind in third and fourth.

Rivett's reinstatement also enables WDE to keep its lead over Pyro in the Teams' championship.
