Proctor had originally announced plans to race with JHR Developments with which he finished runner-up in last year’s Ginetta Junior category.
However a BMR statement has confirmed a switch to Pyro for the 17-year-old from Bridlington. BMR won an unrivalled ten races in 2015’s BTCC with double champions Jason Plato and Colin Turkington – both former racers in Renaultsport categories.
In effect Proctor ‘replaces’ the seat vacated by Ashley Sutton (pictured left) who, with Pyro, won 2015’s UK Clio Cup title as part of BMR’s scheme to support emerging talent in the BTCC’s supporting categories.
Proctor commented: “I was very honoured to drive for BMR last year in my second season in Ginetta Juniors, but for them to extend their deal with me for the next couple of years is fantastic news and a huge boost to my career as they guide me towards the BTCC. It’s an honour to race for such an incredible team and I’m looking forward to working with championship winning team, Team Pyro.”
And said BMR owner Warren Scott: “I am delighted that Senna is with us again this year and I’m really looking forward to another exciting season of the Renault UK Clio Cup. The team at Pyro did an outstanding job looking after Ashley Sutton last year so I’m confident that between us we are capable of growing another champion in 2016.”
There are now less than seven weeks to go before the start of the new UK Clio Cup season – at the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on Sat 2/Sun 3 April. All 18 races on this year’s UK Clio Cup calendar will take place at the BTCC’s high-profile events, meaning huge trackside crowds as well as live coverage on ITV4 for the championship.
Pyro Team Principal Mark Hunt added: “We have a two year plan for Senna to become the UK Clio Cup Champion and, from his performances in two years of Ginettas, I see this being possible. We will start with an intensive test programme and would like to hit the ground running come Brands in April. It helps that we are starting with a racer who understands the environment associated with BTCC events and who also has a sensible but sharp head on his shoulders.”
STOP PRESS: That ‘intensive test programme’ has already begun with Proctor driving down his Pyro-prepared UK Clio Cup race car today at Oulton Park. He is also scheduled to be on track at Brands Hatch this Thursday as well as Thruxton next week.
