For a number of reasons Thruxton’s annual pre-season test is seen as imperative by teams and drivers who are already in a position to run…
Chiefly the circuit’s notorious high speeds place a premium on driver commitment like nowhere else, while car set-up is all-important due to the punishment the tyres take as they round four of UK motor sport’s most fearsome bends – Noble, Goodwood, Village and Church – one after the other.
On top of that, this is the only opportunity to test at Thruxton ahead of the Clio Cup’s two races there in the Spring (Sat 9th/Sun 10th May).
With Paul Rivett away on honeymoon, his team-mates Charlie Ladell and Rory Green will carry out two days of testing starting today (Weds) for WDE Motorsport. Ladell became a front-running force as the 2014 season unfolded and he could be a title contender in 2015…
Likewise newcomers Brett Smith (Pyro) and Ashley Sutton (BMR) who have impressed mightily in other categories. Both will be on track on Thursday – for Sutton and touring car squad BMR the test marks the debut run for both with Clio Cup machinery.
Joining them on Thursday will be Jordan Stilp – three times a race winner on his way to third in the final standings in 2014 with the 20Ten Racing outfit – and his team-mate Mark Howard, plus Rory Collingbourne who like Green, Smith and Sutton is entering his first season in the Clio Cup this year.
All seven drivers will share the track with a number of the leading cars and drivers from the British Touring Car Championship that like the Clio Cup uses Dunlop tyres.
All 18 races on this year’s Clio Cup calendar take place during BTCC events meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on ITV4. The first two are at the world famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on the weekend of Sat 4th/Sun 5th April.
