The West Sussex squad came desperately close to clinching the UK Clio Cup title with driver James Colburn in 2011. Its most recent appearance in the championship – 2014’s season finale on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit – resulted in a double pole position for Colburn in the latest fourth generation UK Clio Cup car.
Team Principal Richard Colburn: “We sat out 2015 to concentrate on nurturing our drivers in the Clio Cup Series who want to graduate to the UK Clio Cup. It’s all a matter of timing and we’re very serious about coming back in 2016 and returning to the front of the UK Clio Cup grid.
“We have maintained James’s car with all the latest upgrades from Renaultsport and are assessing a number of drivers at present. It could be drivers who own their own cars also bring them to us to run in 2016. Hopefully early in the New Year we will have our driver line-up finalised and can begin our pre-season testing programme.
“Certainly we are very impressed with how the UK Clio Cup has moved on in 2015 – the racing and levels of competition among the title contenders has been absolutely terrific.”
Renaultsport’s UK Championship Manager Will Fewkes said: “We are delighted to hear of Westbourne’s plans for 2016. They have a glowing reputation in the UK Clio Cup as well as other single-model ‘hot hatch’ racing and are always welcome in our paddock.
"Their presence can only add to the professionalism and extremely high regard in which the UK Clio Cup is held now by so many drivers with serious ambitions of touring car or sportscar/GT careers.”
