What are the rules for driving on a track?
All drivers and passengers will be given a full safety briefing before being allowed out on track. This includes track etiquette, how and when to overtake, flag signals and their meanings and how to get the most out of your time on the track in a safe and controlled manner.

What happens if people ignore those rules?
Safety is of paramount importance and the organisers reserve the right to remove any individuals seen to be compromising their own or anyone else’s safety. There will be no refund for the individuals concerned.

Do I need special insurance?
Whilst track day accidents are rare, by using your car on track you do so at your own risk. Although the track has public liability insurance cover, it is entirely your choice as to whether you buy insurance to cover damage to your vehicle. It is unlikely that your normal car insurance policy will cover you for a track day, but you should check with your insurer. If you explain that the track day is non-competitive, they may extend your cover for an additional charge. Alternatively there are specialist insurance companies who provide track day insurance. Trackday insurance is available from a number of companies.

What happens in case of an accident or breakdown?
In the event of a breakdown or accident, the vehicle will be removed from the track. Onward recovery is the responsibility of the individual driver.

What does "open pit lane format" mean and how many laps can I do on a day?
Most trackdays operate in sessions where participants are divided into small groups and each group has a session for about 20 minutes. In this way – you may only be out on track for 20 minutes in every hour and you are always on track with the same cars.

However Renaultsport trackdays always operate in an open pit lane. With an open pit lane format, it means that you can go out on the track whenever you like and for as long as you like. Depending on the number of participants on the day, the number of cars allowed on the track at any one time is restricted to a manageable amount so that each driver has adequate space between him / her and the next car. This format means that no one feels under pressure and it is therefore less tiring for the drivers. For a full track day, time on the track normally runs from 9am to 5pm with an hour break for lunch which means that you will definitely have as much time as you like out on the track.

What is the minimum age for drivers and passengers?
No minimum for drivers as long as they hold a valid UK driving licence. The minimum age for passengers is 14 yrs and all passengers under the age of 18 must have the appropriate section of the Registration Form signed by their parent or legal guardian.

Do I need a helmet and if so does it need to be a special kind of helmet?
You can either bring your own helmet or they can be hired on the day at £10 each. All participants must wear crash helmets of a recognised manufacture and complying with the current Safety Requirements of the BSI 6658-85A or BSI 6658 –85A/FR, or MSA/ACU/FIM/FIA standards. All helmets must be correctly fitted.

Am I allowed to take passengers with me, how many and are they allowed to sit in the back?
Yes you can take one passenger at a time but not in the back of the car. The minimum age for passengers is 14 years old and every passenger must attend the safety briefing at the beginning of the day.

I'm new to track days. Can I get instruction?
On the day – you can book a slot to driver one of the Renaultsport cars provided and you will receive a 15 minute tuition session and demonstration lap free of charge. You can book extra instruction in your own car when you make your booking.

When am I allowed to cancel and get a refund? What happens if your extra driver drops out/can't make it. Can they get a refund?
Unfortunately, we cannot give refunds for cancellations.

Do I get a refund when the track day is cancelled by RUK?
Yes.

What do I need to do to prepare my car for a trackday?
Check fluids tyres and brakes, make sure you bring your towing eye (as you will need to fix it to the front of your car on the day in case you need to be towed) fill up with plenty of petrol needed etc.

Is there somewhere safe to put your belongings when you go out on track (wallet, sat nav, fuel etc)?
The pitlane garages are normally opened during a trackday. We do not recommend that you leave any valuables unattended and cannot accept any responsibility for any loss or damages.

What's included in the price?
The price includes the trackday itself, professional driving instruction and a drive around the track in a Renaultsport car and a CD with photos of the day.

Who organises them?
Renaultsport trackdays are organised in conjunction with MotorSport Vision.

What happens on the day?
Arrive at 8am for registration followed by a safety briefing. There is then a short "ducks and drakes" session and then the track is then opened (around 9.30am). There is an hour break for lunch and then the day comes to an end at 5pm. For evening trackdays, arrive around 4pm with track time running from 5pm to 8pm. See the trackday booking page for full details.

What does the 'Car Instruction' consist of?
An instructor will sit in the passenger seat of your car and instruct you on how to get the most out of your car on the track. This can include showing you the racing line, the braking points, when you should turn in to a corner and exit positions. They can also advise on when to brake or accelerate which gears to select and even your driving position. It is very much dependent on your experience as to what advice they will provide.

Is it only open to UK residents?
No – as long as the driver is in possession of a valid driving licence.

Am I insured while driving the RUK demo cars on track?
Yes.

Fuel - is it best to just fill up to the brim?
We advise you to arrive with enough fuel for the day / evening. Fuel is normally available either on site (please bring enough cash as they do not accept cards) or at a petrol station nearby.

Are there catering facilities or do I need to bring a pack lunch?
There are catering facilities on site providing teas coffees and a selection of hot and cold food. If you prefer to bring a pack lunch, there are normally picnic areas outside.

Are there any restrictions in terms of spectators? i.e. can our club come along and have a mini-meet in the car park.
Yes you can.

Can I go out to the car park and back in again?
Yes - once you have registered and attended the safety briefing.

Can people not tracking the car access the pits?
Yes normally but this depends on the number of cars attending.

What happens if you end up in a gravel trap?
All cars on track are required to have the towing eye fitted. In the event of a car in a gravel trap, the session will be stopped and a recovery truck will be sent to tow the vehicle out. This is why we request that each car is fitted with their own towing eye at the beginning of the day.

How many cars on the track at each time?
The marshals determine how many cars should be on the track at any one time depending on the conditions.

I'm a novice on trackdays, but would class myself as pretty fast around the track for a novice, so wouldn't think I'd need to be in a proper beginner's group at all.
There are no groups – everyone drives at their own pace.

All bike trackdays are for the rider no matter how many bikes you ride, have heard car track days are based on the car with more than one driver – is this true?
The standard price is for one car and one driver. You can pay for as many additional drivers as you like.
