If you have the money to buy a 197 then hopefully you will have the money to pay for the insurance. But at the age of 19 with 0ncb that will be hard to get something cheap. I have 1ncb and I am 21 and I found admiral to be the cheapest for me.

but its a lower value car worth less so they see it as a smaller pay out... maximum of 8000 on a 172 compared to 16000 on a 197 if anything were to happen

My quote was £1100 ish, 21 years old No NCB with 3 years driving experience, business class 1 use, 6000 miles per year. with my mum as a named driver (do not put a male named driver on as it usually increases the price!!)

At those prices I would be buying a RS Twingo and running it for a few years (whilst putting the money saved on buying a 197 into a high interest savings account) until I had some no claims and a bit better age to get insured under.

£2k insurance (or above) is absolutely mental.

The most I have ever paid was £700, but that was for a Clio V6.
How times have changed.........................................

You probably wont either. Thought of driving a 1.2 for a couple of years?

Bell are crap imo. If you want to pay monthly you loose the online discount then charge you 24% interest. Directline worked for me. £560 f/c 26 3yrs ncb on a 172ff. They give you the option to pay it over 10 months at 0%, might as well as the money is better in my account than theres.

I'm looking at buying a clio RS 200. I am 19 years old with two years no claims discount. However I am finding it very difficult to find reasonable insurance. Can anyone help me with where to look?
