I saw an exact R5 Alpine on the way back from Germany a few months ago going through Belgium. It even looked like the same bloke. Weird!

Remind's me off this 5 i found round the back of a sheltered housing complex i worked on. I did enquire about it,the old couple and had it for years but were no longer able to drive. It sat there for a few months but was sold on by a 'familiy friend' Sad

In 1982 or 83 I had a 1979 5 Gordini in blue metallic (pre-turbo car with the same wheels as in the silver pics) it was quick for a 1.4 with the crossflow head and not many cars had the 5 speed gearbox. Mine had the 5 Alpine plastic badge from memory. Maybe they all did, can't remember.

But by 1984 it was virtually scrap having succumbed to rust.

Cheers for that, good to see its still out there. To be fair it was in good condition apart from a couple of flat tyres.

DazBav,

I have no idea how as an avid Renault 5 owner and enthusiast I missed your post or the site as the car (registration number SOB 5Y - car originally supplied new to the museum known as the Patrick Collection) belongs to me - bought in 2007 from the couple whom I think you are describing. In fact the car has been garaged (dehumidified and living in a Carcoon along with a 1990 GT Turbo) by me ever since and for a mk1 5 GDT is in the same original (and quite remarkable for a 1980's Renault) condition (of course now without flat tyres) as in the picture that I assume you took back in 2007 ish.

Over the past few years I have collected many NOS OEM parts for the car with the ultimate plan being to fully restore it - describing the process as I go.

Steven
