Have just heard the news that Renault will be involved with Formula E. If this is the case it's great news for Formula E.

Autosport article

Renault Branded Forumula E car

Quote:
Formula E has confirmed that Renault has signed up as a technical partner and unveiled new images of the design of the car for its inaugural season in 2014.

AUTOSPORT revealed in April that Renault was interested in joining forces with the FIA and FE car constructor Spark, and on Wednesday the French firm's role was officially announced.

Series chief Alejandro Agag said the importance of getting a major motor manufacturer involved in FE could not be underestimated.

"Renault and Formula E both share the same commitment to innovative technology and sustainable motoring and we're delighted to welcome them to the championship as a founding partner," he said.

"Not only is Renault one of the world's leading car manufacturers, with a very successful motorsport pedigree, it is also a pioneer for electric vehicles - being the first full-range car manufacturer to market zero-emission vehicles.

"To have a manufacturer of this calibre onboard is a great testament to the growing appeal of the FIA Formula E Championship."

Formula E will launch next season with a series of 10 races around new city street venues.

Ive been reading bits about this over the last year or so, but seems to be coming together though now. The quietness of them will allow more street circuits in cities but not sure how it will fair in the long run half the experience is the sound of motorsport. Such as the Monaco GP wouldnt be the same if it wasnt for the noise if your there in person.

Will they not have some kind of artificial sound? Can't imagine watching a race in total silence, how weird would that be.

Lucas Di Grassi has been the series test driver for a while now.

There is sound to them too. Very different - but still there

in the drivers helmets there is a microphone that picks up their voice and as they go around the track they have to mimic
engine sounds and gearchanges - its also part of the points system the best one gets an extra point!
