Erm, did Renault actually think about this before putting it on a production car that will live 99% of it's life in public places?

That is a pre production car.

The ones that are sold to customers won't open like that.

No, because it doesn't need one. It's got a boot. All of the liquids and other gubbins are under the front bonnet.
