Hope this comes to fruition Big Smile

Maldonado can do that with another team. Get Alonso back along side Grosjean would be a good team Smile

Good news for Lotus who have been struggling with their finances.

Maybe this could work in Red Bull's favour with an engine swap.

Be good to see Prost actively involved in F1 again. Similar sort of thing to Lauda at Merc who does a good job of adding to the show.

LOL just thought the same!

lauda in my opinion is a totally different league to prost....

could it be one of f1 worst kept "secrets" Blush

merc could be in a bit of a flap with their engine powering the current lotus team and possible in to next year as well as an option Tongue

Just been announced: Red Bull and Torro Rosso will not be using Renault engines in 2016.

Renault is trying to buy Lotus, if not they may leave F1.

Well Merc has ruled out supplying RB and it sounds like Renault & RB have served notice on each other so guess it's a Red Bull - Ferrari next year....I doubt Horner will be allowed to blame his new engine which should be a laugh watching. I also can't imagine Ferrari will be supplying parity with its works team...

Could it be Red Bull Honda the way McLaren are slating Honda? LOL

Be like jumping from the frying pan in to the fire.

I reckon Renault have had this split in the pipeline for some time and have actually held back from showing their developement to date to keep it secret for when they come back with their own team in 2016 and then surprise the field with far greater power unit performance.

That'll teach that pesky drinks company.

Audi and porsche have also committed to endurance racing till 2020 also.

If Renault buy Lotus that frees up one Merc engine which mean toro rosso would have to stuck with Renault or have a Honda engine.

I thought Audi had said that they wanted to get into formula one - it was at some point earlier in the year, just after they bought Ducati and said that they also wanted to ensure Ducati was given the investment needed to win the MotoGP championship.

Endurance racing is light years in front of F1 when it comes hybrid technology and i think that's is what interests them more. Plus rules how to implement that technology is far more relaxed.

not only that audi/vw board has just had a big blow up as some of the top execs got too big for their boots by the sounds of it LOL and entering f1 isn't really on the radar

Is that really true? I know they have some fancy stuff but I bet the technology, budget and brain power put into the F1 PUs would blow WEC away. Yes I know the rules limit just how good/powerful these engines could be but the 2017 proposal of 1000hp+ from the same 1.6Ts (with increased fuel flow) is impressive.

Hopefully the 2017 rules will put F1 back from not just been a bit faster (think it's something like 5-7secs around a gp track) than WEC but back to been in another league.

Just to clarify things, as yet, there's no official announcement from Renault on what's happening. All the above it currently rumour. Once we have something to say, we'll post it here

Hoping it happens...it needs to happen. F1 needs Renault (and manufactures in general). And Renault needs to show and justify all the R&D it has spent on its engine. Hopefully Bernie can pull all the deals together.

Good read on how it all ties together:
