As I've mentioned elsewhere I looked closely at the 595 Comp. myself and apart from being a little small for my daily requirements the other factor why I didn't choose it was, I guess, also down to build quality.
I took it for a nice long test drive using both country roads and the autobahn. It was fantastic fun on the country roads but when it came to the autobahn I was alarmed at the amount of road and air noise coming into the car. No windows open but it sounded as though there were.
I just couldn't see me living with that day to day.

Now let me defend (some) Italian cars to a degree:
My last car was an Alfa 166 3.0 V6 and I loved it.
I bought it at 4 years old and kept it until last year when it was 16 years old with 275,000km.
OK, at the end it had a few (minor) problems; it probably needed a new radiator and the aircon was a little iffy but mechanically it was sound and over the time I owned it I had far fewer let downs than many of my German friends with their supposedly more reliable German cars.
Was I lucky to have a good one?
Maybe.

The one constant gripe I had was that the offside (here in De so driver's side in UK) headlamp blew pretty often. A friend who used to own a Lancia had the same problem, so I would agree that they do seem to suffer a little from electrical or fuse problems.

I know you don't like the Clio but it's a great little car for me and I'm delighted I chose it.
I now have just over 9K km and due to my change of job it's also now a daily driver as well as for weekend fun.

Here's hoping you do switch to the Meg. RS next year and we can have a mini RS meet-up in Bayern.

We are off on our 2 week Euro trip on the 26th September and I really am not sure I have enough faith in the little Fiat for the journey TBH so I expect we will take the TTS as the 640 is just too big.

Come on Mr Vix, it's trips like these that the 640d was made for - not a TTS!

LOL You either haven't driven a 5 metre plus 640GC or the small roads encountered in Brittany and Northern italy, take my word for it the TTS is by far the easier option.

Now an Autobahn blast down to Bavaria at the end of the year is a totally different proposition.

Thanks Eccentric but I will take a 'Rain Check' on the Trophy drive if you don't mindWink

Fair point! I had assumed it would all be open, flowing usable roads.

Back in to Dealers again, 4th time since purchase, they are now saying they are flying an Abarth Specialist in from Italy next week especially to look at it, they must think I was born last weekLOL

Never ever again, Fiat/Abarth make Lada look like a quality product, absolute drossAngry

Yet more new problems or same old?

No matter what, I really feel for you Mr. V. as the reason I buy new cars (when I do) is for the reliability and guarantee or warranty. OK, so you have the warranty, but nobody really wants to be using it to such an extent on a very new motor.
At least I hope you get it fixed, if only to sell it next year.

Just as an aside the brand new cars I've bought (not including company cars I had) were:
Volvo 340 (I loved it).
Volvo 360 (2 litre) saloon - even better and a top of the range model which I adored.
I bought these from Lex Brooklands in Leeds and they turned out to be the best car dealer I've ever known.
Vauxhall Cavalier SRi - just before the 130 came out, should have waited.
Clio RS Trophy - very happy so far but not quite 1 year in so far.

I can't believe you're having the troubles you are. Mine is seriously reliable, not missed a beat and is a hoot to drive. Just had a promotion at work which I usually treat myself to a car, but there's not much I want to swap it for without chucking a lot of money in - I'm a Yorkshireman

It can and does happen with any car, key thing is how it's resolved.

I'm sure if you go and look at some vdub forum there is plenty of complaints there as well.

Same issue with the 'Beats' HiFi by Dr Dolittle lol

I have never had a single issue with Renaultsport products they have always been 100% reliable. Starting to wish I had saved myself a chunk of money and got a Twingo now.

If the GF was not so in love with the thing I would have got rid of it this weekend but I will give Fiat one final chance and then it will either go or the GF can deal with them, I neither have the time or inclination to play silly buggers with a bunch of BS'ing Fiat muppets who seem to think I am as stupid as they areAngry

A good fun little car of that there is no doubt but it appears to have been thrown together by an Italian on a Friday afternoon after a lunch spent suckling on the Limoncello LOL

Oh well you live and learnConfused

It does not work, read the threadLOL

Lets be quite honest it is not the apex in car sound systems and is certainly not a patch on the B&O system in the GF's TTS having said that the car is so loud it was probably money badly spent anyway.

Just as an aside the GF has just this minute come in from taking the dogs out and apparently it is now making a graunching noise going into reverseLOL . I have told her she can have the pleasure of the next FIAT visit because I am washing my hands of the thing.

When it is on the road and working it is an absolute hoot.

What I find it hard to comprehend is how I can own a Lotus from new for over 3 years without any issues whatsoever and FIAT cannot get this mass produced product right and/or have the necessary infrastructure and staff to sort the problem at the 1st or even 2nd attempt when it occursConfused I also think FIAT staff have been trained by Lenny Mclean, their people skills are appalling.

At the end of the day Danny it is not a cheap car and for less than £5k more I could have got a brand new M140iShocked

It reminds me of a naughty puppy, it will sh1t and p1ss everywhere but you cant bring yourself to get rid of it, at least the GF cant, she absolutely adores it which I think sums the target audience upLOL

You've just had a bad one, it happens. Some Renaultsports haven't come out perfect, BMWs, VWs, the list is endless. Hell, my friend had to send his McLaren back to Woking to get sorted (it's still not as we speak), so are we thinking McLaren's engineers and mechanics have been inadequately trained? I doubt it.

Actually, maybe as he's had that experience I should never buy a McLaren again based on 1 incident...

LOL Yeah right.

It is a poorly screwed together product, there is no doubting it has a charm all of its own but that does not cover up the fact the dealer support is atrocious and it has been screwed together by a bunch of muppets.

As others have said Danny I can live with a couple of teething problems as long as they are sorted out in a timely and courteous fashion.

As you are aware it replaced a VW UP which cost 1/3 the amount and it never missed a beat and there was never a rattle to be heard, the FIAT rattles like a baby with Savitas DanceLOL

The internet is littered with dissatisfied FIAT customers, I just wish I had done a bit more research, god knows how much the thing is worth on the second hand market, I am strongly expecting a good greasing but I will gladly take my medicine to see the back of the thing.

Good luck with yours and I hope for your sake it never lets you down as you will then experience the full extent of the FIAT Dealers inadequacy, if I was in your shoes I would sell it asap and get back into the RS fold.

Both dealers I've dealt with have been top notch. I don't see much evidence of people unhappy with their purchases and I'm yet to find anyone with the amount of issues you've had. Mine isn't 'poorly screwed together' as there's nothing that has gone wrong, it's barely eating the tyres and I give it a good thrashing often. Lightweight and with that diff I suppose helps (obviously you haven't experienced it, yours is more 'sport' than 'cup').

Sound system? It's really good. Don't forget I get to go in a lot of cars due to one thing and another, maybe no B&O or anything top end, but you won't find a better upgrade for £700. Or maybe it's that radio 4 doesn't show off how good the system is.

I've asked on forums and Fb groups to see if I'm a lucky one, but I think it's the other way around, unfortunately for you

Have a hunt around.
I know from my own experience and that from a few friends that there are quite a few dealers that use it as a benchmark - especially if you are not going to spend a significant wedge getting a replacement from them.Evil

We do seem to be in a era where you make massive losses on new hot hatches. I just stuck my Focus in WBAC and it came back with 19 odd k, that's 13k in 6 months LOL. Next cars gonna be a 10 year old 60,000 mile golf diesel!

LOL LOL Oh Danny Boy, have you heard of the term 'Choice Supportive Bias' LOL

Not really sure a Diff is going to miraculously increase the cars reliability or the level of FIAT serviceLOL

You obviously get to go in a lot of cars and you feel that you are some sort of 'Guru' but peddling justification for purchasing an inferior product like the 595 is in my opinion an abuse of your MOD status with this forumLOL

PS Make me an offer over the circa £12K for the heap of SH1TLOL

Or delete the post might be an easier option as it obviously does not concur with you viewsLOL

Radio 4 here I come, Oh damn I cant listen to it because 'Dr Who' is on strikeLOL
