Colombo on the case!
Italian driver Lorenzo Colombo made it five different winners in 2019’s Formula Renault Eurocup with a double victory at Paul Ricard in early June.
As a result, he has shot up to fourth in overall standings behind leaders, France’s Victor Martins and Russia’s Alexander Smolyar – the winners of the two rounds at the Monaco Grand Prix – and Australian Oscar Piastri who did the double at Silverstone in May.
The championship’s next rounds will be at another active Formula 1 circuit, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, towards the end of July…
Get the Max!
A limited edition ‘Clio 4’ named after Renault UK Clio Cup racer Max Coates has been launched by dealership RMB.
The car was unveiled before a sizeable crowd at Croft Circuit’s recent Clio Cup/British Touring Car event.
It features bespoke red alloy wheels and wing mirrors, a roof mounted ‘fin’ and a body-length twin stripe.
15-year-old record tumbles
The Renault UK Clio Cup’s longest standing race lap record was finally broken during the championship’s recent visit to Croft Circuit.
Jonny Adam’s record of 1m31.501s around the North Yorkshire track had stood incredibly since 2004.
But earlier this month it was beaten – or rather shattered – as, on a newly resurfaced Croft, title rivals Jack Young and Max Coates continually lapped beneath that time.
In the end it went Young’s way with a lap of 1m30.200s – a giant 1.3 seconds beneath Adam’s old mark.
Last chance for Clio Sport Festival
Renault Sport enthusiasts have just a few days left to book tickets for the annual Clio Sport Festival 5-7 July.
The event, organised by R.S. community Cliosport.net, takes place at Blyton Park, Lincolnshire.
In addition to being a magnet for Clio enthusiasts, the weekender has proved increasingly popular for owners of all R.S. models.
