The initial batch of eight cars performed reliably during a run at the Varano circuit in Italy. More on-track running is scheduled in the coming weeks before the Spa race event on 30-31 May.
The R.S.0.1 concept was launched in Moscow 18 months ago. Renault Sport Technologies has since turned that concept into reality with four-times F1 World Champion Alain Prost among the development driver line-up.
R.S.0.1 becomes the latest Renault Sport model to form the backbone of Renault’s latest pan-European single-model race championship that spans back to the early Eighties. Models have included the evocative 5 GT Turbo, Alpine V6 Turbo, 21 Turbo, Clio Williams, Spider sportscar, Clio V6 and Mégane silouhette.
However the R.S.0.1 is by far the most advanced in terms of technical achievement, performance and raw speed.
“This running in the midst of the first deliveries is an important stage in the preparation of the Renault Sport Trophy,” explained Jean-Pascal Dauce, Competition Director for Renault Sport Technologies. “We had a day were everything went according to plan thanks to the intense development done beforehand.
“Now, every minute counts ahead of the first race. The teams and drivers have shown an immense enthusiasm in the Renault Sport R.S. 01.”
