Tom Butler (Derby) will contest the 2016 Renault UK Clio Cup season for 20Ten Racing after appearing in last year’s final two events for the Derby-based squad.

The 21-year-old fashion designer will again be sponsored by his Storm designer clothing company and says he wants to use this year to up build up his experience.

“For pretty much every driver the UK Clio Cup is a two or three-year programme – it is the category right beneath British Touring Cars so the grid is massively competitive and it’d be foolish to think otherwise,” commented Butler.

“On saying that I was pleased with the way I took to it towards the end of last season with 20Ten and to come away from the final round at Brands Hatch with a seventh place result was better than I’d anticipated. I like the way 20Ten operate and being based close to one another is of course a bonus – I see this as the start of a longer-term campaign with them and the target this year is regular top ten finishes and to be pushing for top fives by the end of the season.”

Butler’s move mirrors that of Sam Watkins (Swansea) who has also re-signed for 20Ten after contesting last year’s closing rounds at Silverstone and Brands Hatch for Simon Hunt’s squad.

Hunt said: “I’m very glad we’ve kept Tom on board along with Sam for 2016. They worked well with everyone in our team when they came in towards the end of last season. Continuity is always important in motor sport and bringing on two young chargers together is always an exciting prospect – we’ve done it before with drivers and I see no reason why we can’t do it with Tom and Sam.”

Renault Sport’s UK Motorsport Championship Manager Will Fewkes said: “It’s very nice to see 20Ten being in a position to run two young drivers – they are real racers with a proven track record of race wins and podium results in the UK Clio Cup’s last two seasons. Tom and Sam are bound to push one another and that is sure to boost their team’s chances of further success.”

All 18 races on the 2016 UK Clio Cup calendar will take place at the Dunlop British Touring Car Championship's high-profile events – meaning huge trackside crowds and live television coverage on ITV4 for its drivers, teams and sponsors. The first of those events is at the world-famous Brands Hatch circuit in Kent on the weekend of Sat 2/Sun 3 April. CLICK HERE to book tickets.
