Mark Howard has confirmed he will join the Team Pyro squad at Thruxton this weekend for the remainder of the 2015 Renault UK Clio Cup season.

The Leicestershire racer has contested the opening two events at Brands Hatch and Donington Park for 20Ten Racing and holds second position in the Masters Cup class for older drivers behind Ben Seyfried (SV Racing).

But said Howard: “I’ve kept my eyes open since first coming into the Clio Cup in 2014 and a couple of teams really stick out with their track records – Pyro is obviously one of those so I’ve jumped at the chance to join them.

“I’m excited. Lee Pattison joined them for Thruxton last year and suddenly put in on pole position. I’m not saying I can do that but I want to fight for the Masters Cup crown and it will be interesting to see what difference it might make to my performance and results. Certainly there are no excuses when you are in a team like Pyro…”

Pyro Team Principal Mark Hunt commented: “We won the Masters title before with Simon Belcher so it’ll be nice to have a crack at it again – we’ve already got three youngsters going for the outright title so this takes a bit of pressure off.

“More than anything it will be nice to have someone roughly my own age to talk to – trying to have a discussion about anything outside the Clio Cup with Ash Hand, Ashley Sutton and Brett Smith is never the easiest of tasks!”
