MRM driver Young was judged by officials to have contravened the regulations during a Safety Car period when he braked having already started to accelerate at the re-start.
Although he went on to win on the road by 0.868s from Coates, a one-second time penalty applied by the Clerk of the Course demoted him to second position by 0.132s in a revised result.
And appeal to the event’s stewards was lodged by Young but they upheld the Clerk’s decision.
The revised result means Coates’s championship lead over Young at the top of the table is now 11 points as opposed to just five prior to the penalty being applied.
It also means that Coates's Team HARD squad has won its first two Clio Cup races and that it has nosed ahead of MRM in the Entrants Trophy standings.
