MRM’s Young has been on track this week at Brands Hatch, Thruxton, Snetterton and Donington Park.
The outings marked the 17-year-old’s first time in a car since he and MRM famously won the Clio Cup ‘world final’ at Paul Ricard, France last November.
MRM Team Principal Mike Ritchie commented: “Car and driver were both really good straight out of the box – nice and reliable with lots of laps covered.
“The changeable weather meant we could try a few set-ups and at a dry Donington we were getting very close to times good enough for pole position.”
Westbourne Motorsport pair Colburn and Robinson – the latter new to the Clio Cup this year – were on track at the same time on the Brands Hatch Indy circuit which will host the opening rounds of 2019’s championship on the weekend of Sat 7/Sun 8 April.
It was actually Colburn’s second run at the Kent venue after an outing there last week.
The 19-year-old said: “It was very nice to get back behind the wheel of one of these cars – they really are reliable and a joy to drive.
“Our two days at Brands Hatch were about trying to get the pace out of the car and it was good for Finlay to get cracking, too.
“In terms of pace we felt we were getting mighty close to where we wanted to be – we might need to squeeze a bit more, but so far so good.”
