Young set the pace with a best lap of one minute, 23.206 seconds – 0.326s up on arch rival, Team HARD’s Max Coates who was second fastest.
MRM’s Brett Lidsey was third with Team HARD pair Jamie Bond and Jade Edwards in fourth and fifth. Westbourne Motorsport’s Finlay Robinson completed the top six.
All the above positions were decided in the first practice session, held in dry conditions.
Indeed it was wet for this afternoon’s second session. Coates (1m28.375s) was fastest in that one, 0.461s ahead of Young with Bond in third, Lidsey fourth, Westbourne’s Ben Colburn fifth and Edwards sixth.
Young, six points adrift of Coates at the top of the table, said: “It’s my first race event here and it is a very fast circuit so it’s reassuring to be on the pace.
“I’m feeling confident in the dry conditions but if it’s wet over the weekend – and the forecast is for changeable conditions – then we’ve got work to do because Max is quicker at the moment.”
Coates said: “I’m pretty happy whichever way the weather goes – we’re confident we know where the time to Jack in the dry is and we’re happy with our pace in the wet.
“It is a circuit where ‘the tow’ plays a big part in the races and I think even if those in third and fourth are a few tenths off the pace they could still use the slipstream effect to have a say in proceedings.”
The Clio Cup drivers will be on track twice tomorrow (Saturday): at 10:55-11:25 for their qualifying session and, later, at 16:05 for their first race of the weekend (round 11).
Round 12 is on Sunday at 15:15 and will be broadcast LIVE on ITV4 and live-streamed on ITV.com/hub/itv4
