MRM’s Young also set the race’s fastest as he crossed the line almost four seconds clear of Bond who finished second after re-passing Team HARD team-mate Coates who took third.
Bond led the opening laps but an error at the fast, double-apex right-hand Druids bend enabled Young to breeze past him on the following straight towards Lodge Corner.
Coates was also able to pounce, squeezing past into the next bend, Old Hall.
The three circulated nose-to-tail for a while before Bond regained second from Coates at the hairpin for his best result to date.
“Jamie was slow out of Druids after his mistake and defended to the right so I went down his left hand side and was past going into Lodge,” explained Young.
“It’s an important win as Max had got the gap down to 12 points but this opens it back up again and I’m on pole tomorrow so will be going for the double.”
Bond said: “It’s frustrating to let the win get away like that but I’m still happy with second. If I hadn’t ended up behind Max for a few laps then I think I could have gone with Jack. Now I’ve had a taste of racing them at the front let’s see what happens tomorrow…”
Fourth position in today’s race went to Westbourne Motorsport’s Ben Colburn after he had initially made it a four-way fight for the lead.
Having also run with the leaders early on, Team HARD pair Jade Edwards and Ethan Hammerton took fifth and sixth and MRM’s Brett Lidsey seventh.
Lidsey had challenged Edwards throughout until losing time with a big slide at Knickerbrook on the penultimate lap – this enabling the following Hammerton to also nip past him.
Eighth and showing much improved pace was Specialized Motorsport’s Luke Warr. Westbourne’s Finlay Robinson was forced to retire with a mechanical glitch on his car.
